The Cougars head into the 2013-14 season with a No. 11 national ranking
Men's Basketball - Tue, Oct. 29, 2013

Kansas City, Mo. – Kicking off its 2013-14 season next week with a home opener against Indiana University-Northwest, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team received a No. 11 ranking when the NAIA released its Men's Division II Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll from the national office earlier this afternoon.  The Cougars, who return three starters from last year's squad including NAIA Second Team All-American and reigning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Year Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), are coming off an impressive 2012-13 campaign.

Last year, SXU compiled a 29-6 overall record, finished second overall in the CCAC regular season standings with a 22-2 mark behind only 2013 NAIA National Champion Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and made its seventh appearance at the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championships over the last 11 seasons.  The Cougars also qualified for the second round of the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships marking only the third time in program history (2003, 2005) that the team has earned at least a second round berth.  The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) is well represented in the preseason rankings with No. 1 Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and No. 6 Robert Morris University (Ill.) joining the Cougars in the poll.

Saint Xavier officially opens its 2013-14 campaign on Tuesday, November 5, with a home game against Indiana University-Northwest (Ind.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
