The SXU women's basketball team heads into the 2013-14 season with a No. 9 national ranking
Women's Basketball - Tue, Oct. 29, 2013

Kansas City, Mo. – Kicking off its new season tonight with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I power DePaul University (Ill.), the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team received a No. 9 ranking when the NAIA released the Women's Division II Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll from the national office earlier this afternoon.  The Cougars, who return four starters from last year's squad including NAIA First Team All-American and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Year Morgan Stuut (Marcellus, Mich./Three Rivers), are coming off another stellar season.

Last year, SXU compiled a 25-7 overall record, finished second overall (tie) in the CCAC regular season standings with a 17-5 mark and made its 11th straight appearance at the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championships.  In fact, the Cougars qualified for the second round of the 2013 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championships marking the sixth time in the last eight seasons that the program has earned at least a second round berth.  Three additional teams from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) are currently ranked in the preseason poll, including No. 6 Roosevelt University (Ill.), No. 15 Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and No. 21 Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.).

Saint Xavier opens its 2013-14 campaign this evening with an exhibition game against DePaul University (Ill.) at the McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago.  The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
