Grand Rapids, Mich. – Behind a 70th place individual finish by junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers), the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team took 16th place overall out of the 33 teams taking part in the 2013 NAIA Great Lakes Challenge XC Invitational Saturday at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich. Rosario turned in a time of 19:27.76 on the 5,000 meter course (5K). Over 360 collegiate runners took part in the prestigious annual small college meet hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.).
Senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) was the next Cougar to finish Saturday with a time of 19:33.35 for 74th place. Senior Anna Galvez (Glenview, Ill./Oakton CC/Maine East) finished in 98th place at 20:01.37, while freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was not far behind in 105th place at 20:07.53. Wrapping up the team scoring was sophomore Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist) in 118th place with a time of 20:20.32. Sophomore Ann Kolker (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) and senior Mercedes Mancha (Elgin, Ill./Streamwood) just missed the team scoring Saturday finishing in 130th (20:35.68) and 147th place (20:53.59), respectively.
Saint Xavier takes this weekend off in preparation for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships on Saturday, November 9. This year's championship is being hosted by Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at Sunset Hills Farm County Park in Valparaiso, Ind. The women's race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (central) start.
