CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior midfielder Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Olivet Nazarene University/St. Edmund Campion) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week when the conference office announced its men's soccer weekly award winners Tuesday morning. Simoes becomes the second SXU men's soccer player to receive one of the conference's two player of the week (offensive and defensive) honors after sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) claimed the offensive award back on October 8.
Simoes accounted for four of his team's five goals over two games last week giving the Cougars five wins over their last six games. He scored the game-winning goal last Wednesday when he broke a 1-1 tie in the 52nd minute of a 2-1 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). He then authored all three goals in SXU's 3-1 road win over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Saturday. With the four goals on the week, Simoes doubled his goal production for the year with his eight netters. He also has four assists for a total of 20 points on the season.
Saint Xavier (6-7-0 overall/6-2-0 CCAC) makes its way up to Milwaukee, Wis., this evening for a key conference road match-up with Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
