CHICAGO - Leading a contingent of Saint Xavier University runners to an impressive fifth-place team finish at the NAIA Pre-Nationals Invitational this past Saturday, senior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for his personal 12th place showing in the 34-team meet when the honor was announced Tuesday. It was the first time this season a male SXU runner has earned the conference's weekly award.
Corcoran covered the 8K course (8,000 meters) in a stellar time of 25:28 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas. A total of 272 runners competed in the meet, which featured 14 teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Cougars, who are currently receiving votes in the latest poll as well, finished ahead of No. 12 ranked Concordia University (Neb.), No. 21 Southwestern (Kan.), No. 22 Indiana Tech, No. 24 Dordt College (Neb.) and five other teams receiving votes.
Saint Xavier is off this weekend and runs next at the Great Lakes Regional Invitational hosted by Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, October 26. The men's race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (eastern) start. This meets assembles many of the top-rated teams from around the Midwest. It will be the last meet for the Cougars before the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships on November 9.
