South Bend, Ind. – Junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers) led the way with a sixth-place overall finish to lead the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team to a second-place team finish of the 14 teams competing at the 2013 Bethel College Invitational Friday afternoon at Saint Patrick's Park in South Bend, Ind. Rosario completed the 5,000 meter course (5K) in a time of 19:21.8. The second-place team finish was the highest for the Cougars over the four races the team has taken part in this season. Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Judson University (Ill.) was the only team to finish ahead of SXU in the field.
Freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was next across the finish line for Saint Xavier with an 11th place finish and a time of 19:45.0. The next two Cougars to finish came in within seconds of one another with sophomore Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist) coming in at 15th place (19:58.2) and senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) at 18th place (20:01.8). Sophomore Ann Kolker (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) completed the team scoring in 30th place with a time of 20:23.3. Junior Ali Proffitt (Lyons, Ill./College of DuPage/Morton) also had a solid race for Saint Xavier with a 39th place finish at 20:47.1. Seven of the SXU runners competing Friday recorded season-best times.
Saint Xavier takes this weekend off and returns to competition on Saturday, October 26, at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational. The meet takes place at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich., and will feature a number of ranked teams from around the NAIA. The women's race is scheduled for a noon (eastern) start.
