CHICAGO – A goal off a header by senior defender Yonda Abogunrin in the 82nd minute of play was the difference as Saint Xavier University fell to Olivet Nazarene University, 1-0, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The game's only goal was set up off a throw-in by ONU freshman midfielder Miguel Fierro. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-7-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the conference, while the Tigers improve to 8-3-1 on the year and take over sole possession of first place in the CCAC standings at 5-1-0.
Senior keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished the game with five saves for SXU. The game was a defensive struggle throughout with both teams combining for just 10 shots on goal (four for Saint Xavier, six for Olivet). Sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) led the Cougars offense with five total shots, but had no shots on goal. It was the first loss of the month for SXU after winning three straight games against CCAC foes, Judson University (Ill.), Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) and Trinity International University (Ill.).
