CHICAGO – A goal off a penalty kick by junior utility player Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) was the lone score for the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team in a 4-1 loss to No. 19 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The loss is the fourth straight for the Cougars, who fall to 3-8-1 overall this season and 1-5-0 in conference play. The Tigers move to 8-3-1 on the year with the victory and 4-1-1 in the CCAC. Freshman keeper Alex Perry (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) finished Saturday's game with 11 saves for SXU.
Olivet Nazarene was aggressive offensively throughout the game totaling 25 total shots with 15 of them on goal. Saint Xavier had nine shots Saturday with seven on goal, including four from Graves. The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead on goals by sophomore forward Elizabeth Hetrick in the seventh and 18th minutes of play, respectively. Graves cut the deficit in half, 2-1, with her penalty kick goal in the 22nd minute. However, ONU added two more goals in the second half to pull away for good. The first one came in the 53rd minute off the foot of sophomore forward Elisabeth Wahl and the final one came in the 68th minute from junior forward McKenzie Hengesh.
Saint Xavier (3-8-1 overall/1-5-0 CCAC) wraps up its three-game home stand on Tuesday, October 15, with a conference game against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Deaton Field.
