Elgin, Ill. – Sophomore right side Meghan Falsey (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) posted nine kills, two service aces and 14 digs, but the Saint Xavier University volleyball team lost a tough Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road match to Judson University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars dropped the match in three straight sets by scores of 31-33, 19-25 and 20-25. The loss drops SXU to 9-10 overall this season and 4-5 in conference play.
Junior middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) finished the match with seven kills for the Cougars, while junior setter Kelli Shaffer (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth) had 18 assists, three aces and 17 digs. Junior libero Dominique Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./UIC/Mother McAuley) led SXU defensively with 18 digs in the match. The Cougars had their chances in the first set to gain some momentum leading late by scores of 22-17 and 24-22, but could not get the timely points when needed.
Saint Xavier (9-10 overall/4-5 CCAC) returns home to host Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Thursday, October 10. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
