CHICAGO – Just hours after being named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) started making his case for next week's award by scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 5-0 victory for Saint Xavier University over visiting Trinity International University (Ill.) Tuesday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.  In addition to the offensive play of Gutierrez, the Cougars also logged another shutout for senior goalkeeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), his third in the last five games.  SXU moves to 4-6 overall this year and sits in a tie for first place in the CCAC with a 4-1 mark after winning four of its last five games.

Gutierrez got the scoring started in the 16th minute of play when he took advantage of a deflected ball off the TIU keeper and made a shot from 10 yards deep to put the Cougars ahead, 1-0.  Seconds later, senior midfielder James King (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage/Downers Grove South) hauled in a pass from junior midfielder Brandon Simoes (Brampton, Ontario/Canada/Olivet Nazarene/St. Edmund Campion) and punched it through on a short shot in front of the net.  With just under five minutes left in the first half, Saint Xavier extended its lead to 3-0 when Simoes scored on a header set up off an assist by Gutierrez.  Gutierrez scored both of SXU's second half goals, the first coming off a header in the 59th minute and the second on a penalty kick in the 71st minute.  Simoes provided the assist in Gutierrez's second goal on the night in the 59th minute.  Held finished the game with four saves for the Cougars and improves his record to 4-1 as the starting keeper this season.

Saint Xavier (4-6-0 overall/4-1-0 CCAC) hosts Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Saturday, October 12, in a battle for first place in the conference standings.  Both teams bring in league-leading 4-1 marks to Saturday's match-up.  Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Deaton Field in Chicago.
