CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University sophomore forward Marco Gutierrez (Stone Park, Ill./St. Joseph) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week when the conference office announced its men's soccer weekly award winners Tuesday morning. Gutierrez earned the weekly award for the first time in his young career. It was also the first time this season that a SXU men's soccer player has received one of the two (offensive and defensive) player of the week honors.
Gutierrez was named the league's offensive player of the week after having a hand in on five of Saint Xavier's seven goals in a pair of league wins last week. He opened the week by scoring all four goals in a 4-3 victory over Judson University (Ill.) last Wednesday and followed that up with an assist on the final goal in the Cougars' 3-0 road win over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Saturday. Gutierrez currently ranks No. 8 in the conference in total goals scored (5) and No. 10 in total points (11).
Saint Xavier (3-6 overall/3-1 CCAC) hosts Trinity International University (Ill.) in CCAC action this evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
