Bourbonnais, Ill. – Sophomore middle blocker Heidi Gregerson (Park Ridge, Ill./UW-Parkside/Maine South) racked up 14 kills and a pair of blocks (one solo) in helping lead the Saint Xavier University volleyball team to a split in its final two matches Saturday at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Crossover Tournament hosted by Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill.  The Cougars defeated Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in Saturday's morning match in three straight sets (25-9, 25-16 and 25-18). Unfortunately for SXU, things did not go as smooth in the afternoon match against Trinity Christian College with the Trolls getting the victory in three sets (14-25, 12-25 and 17-25).  With the split, Saint Xavier goes to 9-9 overall this season and 4-4 in CCAC play.

Junior middle hitter Marie Hackert (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial), sophomore right side Meghan Falsey (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and sophomore outside hitter Cassidy Sponsler (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) each posted nine kills in the early match against PUNC to lead the Cougars' attack.  Gregerson recorded eight kills as well to go along with a pair of service aces.  Junior setter Kelli Shaffer (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth) had a solid outing with 34 assists, three kills and five digs.  Junior defensive specialist Jessica Galotta (Chicago, Ill./Parkland CC/Mother McAuley) was also a key contributor for SXU with five kills and a team-best nine digs.

Gregerson led the Saint Xavier attack in the late match against Trinity Christian with six kills, while Shaffer tallied 18 kills and seven digs.  Junior libero Dominique Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./UIC/Mother McAuley) paced the SXU defense with 11 digs.  Hackert and Falsey each chipped in five kills in the match as well.  The Cougars struggled offensively in the afternoon match-up totaling 22 attacking errors to 26 kills for an attack percentage of .040.

Saint Xavier (9-9 overall/4-4 CCAC) continues conference play on Tuesday, October 8, with a road match against Judson University (Ill.).  The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Elgin, Ill.
