CHICAGO – Saturday's Homecoming Football game between No. 3 ranked Saint Xavier University and No. 4 Grand View University originally scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff has been changed to a 1 p.m. kickoff at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago due to the threat of inclement weather forecasted for the area in the evening hours. This highly anticipated match-up between two of the NAIA's top rated football teams has been tabbed the "NAIA Football Game of the Week" and is expected to draw a large crowd.
"Due to the magnitude of this game and the threat of potentially serious storms moving through the area late tomorrow, we decided that the best course of action was to move up the kickoff to 1 p.m.," said SXU athletics director Bob Hallberg. "Everyone involved has been very receptive to this change and I believe that the safety of our players, coaches, staff and fans is always the most important factor to consider. Plus, we hope that everyone can come out and enjoy this homecoming game without interruption or delays."
Tomorrow's game marks the first Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League game for Saint Xavier since the 2006 season. The Cougars were members of the MSFA Midwest League from 1994-2006 before spending the last six seasons in the MSFA Mideast League.
