CHICAGO – Senior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) and junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) both finished with two-day scores of 147 to lead the Saint Xavier University men's golf team to a third-place team finish at the two-day Chicago State University Invitational at Harborside Golf Course in Chicago. The Cougars finished the eight-team event with a combined team score of 603 (299, 304) trailing only the winner, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, at 592 (298, 294) and Texas-Pan American at 598 (301, 297), respectively.  SXU had a bit of bad luck strike in day two when senior Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) was forced to withdraw due to injury after the fourth hole.

Senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) turned in a round of 73 Tuesday to give him a two-day total of 150.  Sophomore Zack Trent (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) completed the scoring for SXU on day two with a round of 84.  The Cougars did finish ahead of some NCAA Division I teams, including Loyola University (Ill.) in fourth place at 606 (309, 297), Eastern Illinois University in fifth place at 619 (310, 309) and host Chicago State University in sixth place with a two-day score of 620 (308, 312).

Saint Xavier heads to Missouri next week to compete at the William Woods Fall Invitational.  The two-day tournament kicks off on Monday, September 30, at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo.
