CHICAGO - Competing in a field of better than 200 runners at the National Catholic Cross Country Invitational hosted by University of Notre Dame (Ind.) last Friday, Saint Xavier University senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) placed 17th overall on her way to earning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors when the award was announced Tuesday morning. Wallace paced the Cougars in the non-Division I category of the 5K (5,000 meters) meet with a time of 19:09. That helped lead SXU to a ninth-place team finish out of 26 schools competing.
"I'm so excited for Jordan and she definitely deserves the honor after the nice race she ran," said Saint Xavier University women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "She is a very talented runner and I hope she brings the same level of confidence that she displayed at this meet to all of our races the rest of the season."
The Cougars were also the second-highest placing team among NAIA competitors finishing behind only No. 17-ranked Aquinas College (Mich.), which placed third overall. SXU continues its season on Saturday, October 5, at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
