CHICAGO - Junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) had the lowest round of the day with an even-par score of 72 to pace the Saint Xavier University men's golf team in the opening day of the two-day Chicago State University Invitational at Harborside Golf Course in Chicago. The Cougars shot a collective 299 Monday and trail the leader, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (Wis.), by a stroke heading into the final day of the eight-team event.
Seniors Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) and Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) both finished in a tie for 11th place individually with rounds of 75 Monday. Senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) shot a 77 on the day putting him in a tie for 15th place in the standings and rounding out the Cougar scorers. Sophomore Zack Trent (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) also competed for SXU with a round of 86. The Cougars look to win the Invitational Tuesday needing to get ahead of UW-Green Bay, while also staying ahead of Texas-Pan American currently in third place with a day one score of 301 as well as host Chicago State University in fourth place with a score of 308, Loyola University (Ill.) in fifth place at 309 and Eastern Illinois University in sixth at 310.
Day two of the Chicago State University Invitational continues on Tuesday, September 24, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Harborside Golf Course.
