CHICAGO - Senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) became the Saint Xavier University women's soccer all-time career points leader Friday as the Cougars earned a 3-0 victory in their season-opener against No. 16 Siena Heights University (Mich.) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Coby finished the game with two goals and an assist. She now has 167 total points in her collegiate career. SXU Hall of Famer ('05) Marisa Bielski, who played from 1997-2000, held the previous mark of 164 points.
Senior midfielder and co-captain Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) got the scoring started for Saint Xavier in the game's eighth minute when she found the back of the net off assists by freshman midfielder Carey Brown (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) and Coby, respectively. After leading 1-0 at the half, Coby helped the Cougars pull away in the second half. She scored SXU's second goal less than a minute into the second half off a pass from junior midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley). The pair connected for another goal and assist combo with 3:23 to play in regulation to wrap up the game's scoring.
Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg) got the start in front of the net for Saint Xavier and notched the shutout. She also finished with five saves in the game. SXU had eight shots on goal in the game compared to just five by the Saints.
Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) continues its season next weekend in Pulaski, Tenn., as participants of the Martin Methodist College Classic. On Saturday, September 1, the Cougars will take on Auburn University-Montgomery (Ala.) at 1:30 p.m. eastern time before wrapping up the tourney on Sunday with an 11 a.m. (eastern) game against Louisiana State University-Shreveport (La.).
