South Bend, Ind. – Senior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) finished 17th overall in a field of 207 runners to pace the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team to a ninth-place team finish in the 26-team, non-Division I category of the 2013 National Catholic Cross Country Invitational hosted by University of Notre Dame (Ind.) Friday evening at the N.D. Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. Wallace clocked a time of 19:09.9 in the 5K (5,000 meters) race. Junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/North Fort Myers) also had a top 30 individual finish for the Cougars Friday coming in at No. 27 overall in a time of 19:23.7.
Freshman Nicole Watkins (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was next across the finish line for SXU finishing 61st overall in 20:10.6. Sophomore Ann Kolker (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) and freshman Dana Martin (Chicago, Ill./Marist) were the next two Cougars to cross and completed the team scoring at No. 81 and 83, respectively, at 20:32.6 and 20:36.2. The Cougars were the second highest NAIA squad to finish in the field trailing only No. 17 ranked Aquinas College (Mich.) in third place.
Saint Xavier takes next weekend off and returns to take part in the 12th Annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 5. The meet takes place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., with the first of three women's races on the day scheduled for a 10:15 a.m. (eastern) start.
