Fort Wayne, Ind. – A go-ahead goal by freshman forward Mariana Hoerr (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) near the end of the first half gave the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team a 2-1 lead for good en route to a 3-1 victory over University of Saint Francis (Ind.) Monday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.  Hoerr's goal came off a header in the 42nd minute of play set up by a nicely placed corner kick by senior midfielder Molly Sheehan (Orland Park, Ill./Stagg).  With the victory, SXU evens out its overall record at 2-2-1 this season.

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with junior midfielder Danielle Inzinga (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) putting Saint Xavier ahead, 1-0, in the seventh minute off a long unassisted shot into the lower left corner of the goal.  Six minutes later, USF tied the game when freshman forward Nicole Stephan scored on a shot attempt following a deflection off SXU freshman keeper Alex Perry (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville).  Hoerr got the go-ahead goal just before halftime to give the Cougars a 2-1 edge at the break.  The Saint Xavier defense played well in the second half keeping the opposition from tying the game.  With a minute to play, junior midfielder Cassie Pullia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) put the game away with an unassisted goal intercepted when a USF player tried to clear the ball.  Perry finished the game with 10 saves, the third time this season she has posted double-digit saves in a game.

Saint Xavier (2-2-1 overall) returns to action on Saturday, September 14, with another road game against Siena Heights University (Mich.).  The game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. (eastern) start in Adrian, Mich.
