Marion, Iowa – Paced by a ninth-place individual finish by senior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard), the Saint Xavier University men's golf team placed sixth overall out of the 19 teams competing in this weekend's Cropper Golf Classic hosted by Mount Mercy University at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa. Ryan shot a 74 in Saturday's opening round and followed that up with a 75 on Sunday on the par-72 course. SXU turned in a combined team score of 614 (300, 314) to claim sixth place. AIB College of Business won the two-day tournament with a team score of 597 (299, 298).
Senior James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) was the next finisher for Saint Xavier with a total score of 152 (71, 81), which placed him in a tie for 18th place individually. Junior Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) scored a 156 (77, 79) on the weekend to tie for 35th place individually for the Cougars, while senior Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/West Des Moines) rounded out the Saint Xavier scorers with a 161 (82, 79) for 58th place (tie). Sophomore Zack Trent (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) also competed for SXU finishing in a tie for 86th place with a total score of 167 (78, 89). The Cougars were in fourth place heading into Sunday's final round with a team score of 300. There were 110 collegiate golfers competing in the Cropper Classic over the weekend.
Saint Xavier heads to West Chicago, Ill., on Sunday, September 15, to take part in the Benedictine University Fall Invite. The one-day tournament takes place at St. Andrew's Golf Course and Country Club in West Chicago.
