CHICAGO – Freshman keeper Alex Perry (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) logged the first shutout of her young collegiate career posting nine saves to help the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team earn its first victory of the season, a 1-0 win over visiting Westminster College (Utah), Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.  The Cougars got the game's lone score in the 49th minute when a well-placed free kick by junior midfielder Monica Chavolla (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township) resulted in a goal in the box for junior Morgan Graves (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West).  SXU moves to 1-0-1 with the victory, while the Griffins fall to 1-2-0 on the year.

The Cougars did not finish with a lot of scoring chances in Saturday's match-up recording just five total shots and only two on goal.  However, SXU was tough defensively stopping all of Westminster's nine on-goal shot attempts.  The game was delayed nearly two hours from its original start time of 11:30 a.m. due to a strong thunderstorms.

Saint Xavier (1-0-1 overall) wraps up the holiday weekend with a game on Monday, September 2, against MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.).  The game is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start at Deaton Field.
