Kansas City, Mo. – With the softball team leading the way with four representatives, Saint Xavier University Athletics had seven of its spring season student-athletes named as 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes when the NAIA national office in Kansas City, Mo., released the awards this week. The foursome from the softball team included junior Ariel Hinton (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville), senior Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), junior Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and senior Ashley Sullivan (Lemont, Ill./UW-Parkside/Lemont). In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and achieved junior academic status.
The Cougar baseball team had senior Mike Klett (Plainfield, Ill./Western Michigan/Plainfield North) named as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. On the men's outdoor track team, junior Shane Kenney (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) also claimed the honor, while the SXU women's outdoor track team had senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg) recognized as well.
