CHICAGO – Highlighted by a 10th place finish and school record time of 3:03:07.30 in the marathon by senior Ashley Shares (Palos Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Stagg), the Saint Xavier University women's track team wrapped up its outdoor season over the weekend at the 2013 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. Shares finished over 10 minutes faster than her time in last year's national meet when she finished in 12th place overall and set the previous school mark with a time of 3:13:44.70. In addition, junior Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) improved her time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase turning in a 11:43.36 for 16th place overall. In 2012, she finished with a time of 11:59.17.
SXU's 4x800 meter relay team consisting of senior Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic), junior Leslie Rosario (Fort Myers, Fla./Neosho County CC/Fort Myers North), freshman Ann Kolker (Naperville, Ill./St. Francis) and senior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson University/Lakes) took 16th place overall with a time of 9:41.64. Senior Mercedes Mancha (Elgin, Ill./Streamwood) also had a solid performance at the national meet with a 10th place finish in the 5,000-meter race-walk with a time of 28:56.07.
"This was a very exciting season for our program," said Saint Xavier University women's track coach Lisa Ebel. "I am so proud that we had seven national qualifying performances and it was thrilling to have so many athletes representing SXU at the national meet."
