Bourbonnais, Ill. – Highlighted by junior right-hander Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) earning the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Pitcher of the Year award and her younger sister, freshman right fielder Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), taking the 2013 CCAC Freshman of the Year honor, the Saint Xavier University softball team showcased the talent that helped drive them to this year's regular season CCAC title when the all-conference awards and teams were announced Thursday at the 2013 CCAC Softball Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill.  In addition to the two sisters, senior third baseman Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) also earned first team recognition Thursday, while senior shortstop Ashley Sullivan (Lemont, Ill./UW-Parkside/Lemont) and sophomore first baseman Amanda Hainlen (Bloomington, Ill./Heartland CC/Bloomington) garnered spots on the second team.  In addition, SXU head coach Myra Minuskin was named the 2013 CCAC Softball Coach of the Year.

Going into the conference tournament, Megan Nonnemacher led the entire conference in wins (22) complete games (23) and innings pitched (159.1), was second overall in shutouts (9) and earned run average (1.05) as well as third in total strikeouts (182).  Nicole Nonnemacher led the Cougars in a number of offensive categories this spring, including batting average (.418), hits (56), doubles (10) and runs scored (39); but was also impressive on the mound for SXU going 21-3 during the regular season and leading the team with a school-record 238 strikeouts.  Mollohan was the team's RBI leader (33) hitting a stellar .378 with 51 hits, including three doubles and a homer.  Hainlen hit .343 (46-for-134) and led the Cougars with seven home runs, while Sullivan was a force defensively all season long for SXU committing just two errors as the team's starting shortstop with 70 putouts, 49 assists and a fielding percentage of .983.  She also hit .258 (31-for-120) with 25 runs scored and 18 RBI.

 

Saint Xavier (43-5 overall/19-1 CCAC) is taking part in the 2013 CCAC Softball Tournament, which began at 9 a.m. this morning.  The Cougars received a first-round bye due to their No. 1 seed and faced off against No. 5 seed Robert Morris University (Ill.) at 3 p.m. this afternoon.
