Joliet, Ill. – Saint Xavier University junior right-hander Scott Vachon (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week Tuesday when the award was released by the conference office. Vachon led the Cougars to a pair of wins last week in key conference competition against Robert Morris University (Ill.) and University of St. Francis (Ill.). With his two victories on the week, he kept his perfect win-loss record intact finishing the 2013 campaign with a 7-0 mark and a team-best earned run average (ERA) of 3.19.
Vachon threw all seven innings in a 3-2 road win over Robert Morris University last Monday. He allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned) and a pair of walks, while striking out 11 RMU batters. With the Cougars in a must-win situation Saturday in trying to keep their postseason hopes alive, he was sharp again recording another complete game performance of seven innings in game one and giving up just six hits, one run (earned) and a walk with two strikeouts in a 4-1 victory in Joliet, Ill. Vachon led SXU in strikeouts this season with 51.
Saint Xavier finished up the 2013 season over the weekend and had an overall record of 23-18. The Cougars tied for sixth place in the final CCAC regular season standings with an 18-12 conference mark, but Trinity Christian College owned the tiebreaker by winning the regular-season series and claimed the final spot in the six-team 2013 CCAC Baseball Tournament.
