CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University Athletics Department held its 2013 SXU Student-Athlete Awards Banquet Wednesday evening at the Shannon Center to honor 86 student-athletes for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom.  Student-athletes recognized have maintained at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) through December 31, 2012, and each received either a bronze, silver or gold medallion as their award based on their respective GPA. In addition, seniors Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) were named the 2012-13 SXU Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year.  Mollohan is majoring in mathematics and was a first team honoree on last season's Capital One Academic All-America College Division Softball Team as well as a Daktronics-Scholar-Athlete.  Zackery is finishing up his major in business administration and helped lead the Cougars to the semifinals of the 2012 NAIA Football Championship Series.  He led the team with 80 catches for 1,122 yards and 13 touchdowns as well as being named to the 2012 National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Class, which made up the 15 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy that recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

Gold medals were awarded to student-athletes with cumulative grade-point averages between 3.75 and 4.00 (on a 4.00 scale).  Gold medal winners included:
