Joliet, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University softball team continued its season-opening roll this past week going a perfect 6-0 with junior designated hitter/catcher Ariel Hinton (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) and junior right-hander Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) being a pair of key contributors. Hinton batted .500 (10-for-20) with four multiple-hit games over the stretch to earn the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Player of the Week honor, while Nonnemacher gained three of the team's six wins on the mound to claim the CCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week accord. The No. 13 ranked Cougars are also the only unbeaten team left in league play at 12-0 thanks in part to the doubleheader sweeps of Roosevelt University (Ill.), Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and University of St. Francis (Ill.) last week.
Hinton led the Cougars with 10 hits, eight RBI and the .500 batting average for the week. She also scored five runs and had a pair of doubles, while fielding all 27 of her chances cleanly behind the plate. Hinton hit safely in five of the six SXU games and either scored or drove in at least one run in each of the six contests, all of which were against league foes.
Nonnemacher garnered the pitching distinction for the second time this season (first on March 19) after posting three complete-game victories, including a shutout, and a 0.67 earned run average (ERA). Over her 21 innings of work, Nonnemacher allowed just two earned runs and four walks, while striking out 20 batters. She is now 16-1 on the season with eight shutouts and has helped lead the Cougars to their best start in program history at 31-3.
Saint Xavier (31-3 overall/12-0 CCAC) hosts a non-conference doubleheader with NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside this afternoon. The first game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago.
