CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) earned second team recognition on the 2013 Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) East Division All-Conference Team to highlight four SXU players honored when the teams were announced over the weekend. The Cougars had three players claim all-conference spots on the honorable mention team in junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) and sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central).
Kull had an impressive debut season with Saint Xavier finishing with 234 kills (second on team) and a team-leading attack percentage of .383. He also led the squad with 52 service aces and total blocks (101). Cousin paced SXU with 250 kills this season, while also recording 132 digs and 17 aces. French was the team's assists leader with 757 and also finished second on the squad with 137 digs and third in total blocks with 64. Blackwood posted 193 kills, 130 digs and 32 total blocks this past season.
Saint Xavier finished the 2013 season with a 6-21 overall record and took fifth place among the seven teams competing in the East Division of the MAMVIC with a 3-9 conference mark. SXU ended its season in the first round of the MAMVIC East Division Tournament with a loss to No. 4 seed Lourdes University (Ohio).
