Joliet, Ill. - Setting a new school-record team score of 284 in the process, the Saint Xavier University men's golf team went stroke-for-stroke with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) host University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at its Spring Invite and came up just short of the top spot in the field of 12 teams at Inwood Golf Course in Joliet, Ill. The host Fighting Saints won the Invite with a combined score of 281, a school record team score for their program as well. SXU finished in front of a number of other conference foes at the Invite, including Olivet Nazarene University (5th-308), Calumet College of St. Joseph (7th-309), Trinity Christian College (7th-309) and Purdue University-North Central (11th-320).

"The team played great today, but went up against a very hot team in St. Francis," said Saint Xavier University men's golf coach Mike Mandakas. "Playing a very good team on their home course is tough, but our team is starting to build some momentum as we get closer to the conference tournament. All five golfers played well today, but definitely left a few shots out there. It was good to see Kyle Bahnick put a full round together as he played his best collegiate round today."

Juniors James Kerr (Donegal, Ireland/Western Texas/Arch Bishop Ilsley) and Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa/Kirkwood CC/Valley) both turned in rounds of 69 to lead the Cougars Tuesday. Sophomore Kyle Bahnick (Inverness, Ill./Carthage College/Palatine-Fremd) shot a 71, while junior Brendan Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Moraine Valley CC/Shepard) recorded a round of 75 to complete the team scoring. Kerr and Brown both finished tied for second overall in the field of 71 golfers. Freshman Zack Trent (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) also competed for SXU Tuesday and shot a round of 77 as the team's fifth individual finisher. Par for Inwood Golf Course was 71 with a total yardage of 6,196 yards.

Saint Xavier heads to LaPorte, Ind., on Monday, April 15, for the Purdue University-North Central Spring Shootout. The tournament will take place at Briar Leaf Golf Club and begin play at 10 a.m.
