CHICAGO – Behind the stellar pitching performances of junior right-hander Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and freshman righty Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team kept its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) record unblemished at 8-0 with a doubleheader sweep of Roosevelt University (Ill.) Tuesday afternoon at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago.  The Cougars (27-3 overall) won the first game, 8-1, with Megan Nonnemacher giving up just seven hits, one run (earned) and a walk with six strikeouts en route to her 14th win of the season (14-1).   Nicole Nonnemacher then led the charge in a 5-2 victory allowing just five hits, two runs (both earned) and two walks with 12 strikeouts.  She is 13-2 on the year with the win.

The Cougars broke open Tuesday's first game in the bottom of the third inning with six runs in the frame highlighted by a two-run single by junior designated hitter Ariel Hinton (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) and a three-run triple down the left field line by sophomore catcher Megan James (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist).  A RBI single up the middle by the Lakers in the top of the fourth made it a 6-1 score, but SXU answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth following a throwing error to wrap up the game's scoring.  No Roosevelt player recorded more than one hit in Monday's first game.  Hinton went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Cougars.

In the late game, senior third baseman Kate Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) posted a RBI single in the bottom of the first to give Saint Xavier an early 1-0 lead.  A single by sophomore left fielder Holly Hilden (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) drove home another run for the Cougars in the fourth inning extending the lead to 2-0.  James brought home a third run in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice to make the score, 3-0.  Roosevelt answered in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs to pull within a run at 3-2, but a pair of RBI singles by freshman second baseman Kasey Kanaga (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) and Nicole Nonnemacher in the bottom half of the frame gave SXU back its three-run edge, 5-2.  Nicole Nonnemacher allowed just a walk with no hits in the top of the seventh to close out the game.  She also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI to lead the offense.

Saint Xavier (27-3 overall/8-0 CCAC) gets set for a huge conference clash with No. 17 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Wednesday, April 10.  The Cougars host the key doubleheader at SXU Softball Field starting at 3 p.m.
