CHICAGO – Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the way with 11 kills, but it was not enough as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team ended its 2013 campaign in the first round of the Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) East Division Tournament Friday morning at the Lillian & Larry Goodman Center in Chicago.  The No. 5 seeded Cougars fell to No. 4 seed Lourdes University (Ohio) in opening round action Friday dropping the match in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-23.  With the loss, SXU is eliminated from the tournament and ends its season with a 6-21 overall record.

Junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) posted eight kills and six digs in the match, while sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) had 25 assists and a service ace.  Junior libero Dan Nelson (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) was solid defensively finishing with nine digs.  Outside hitters Trevor Lund and Nick DiMarco each tallied 13 kills to lead Lourdes Friday morning.

Saint Xavier finishes the 2013 season with a 6-21 overall record and took fifth place among the seven teams in the East Division of the MAMVIC with a 3-9 conference mark.
