Hannibal, Mo. – Sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) combined for 24 kills and five total blocks (one solo), but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell in its regular season finale to Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) Thursday night in Hannibal, Mo. The Cougars dropped the match in four sets winning the opening set, 26-24, but losing the next three, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17. Blackwood led the attack with 14 kills, while Kull finished the match with 10 kills to go along with two service aces and four total blocks (one solo). With the non-conference loss, SXU falls to 6-20 overall to complete its regular season slate.
Sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) chipped in 31 assists as well as a pair of kills and a service ace for the Cougars. Junior libero Dan Nelson (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) was solid defensively for SXU recording a match-best 15 digs on the night.
Saint Xavier (6-20 overall/3-9 MAMVIC) awaits its seeding and pairing for the upcoming Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) East Division Tournament at Robert Morris University in Chicago. The tournament begins on Friday, April 5.
