CHICAGO – Despite double-digit efforts of 12 kills and 12 digs from junior right side Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell to D'Youville College (N.Y.) on "Senior and Parents Night" in non-conference action Tuesday in its regular season home finale at the Shannon Center in Chicago. SXU fell in four sets to the visiting Spartans by the scores of 24-26, 21-25, 25-14 and 22-25. Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) also had a nice night for the Cougars with nine kills to go along with a match-best three service aces.
Sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) recorded eight kills in the match and chimed in with nine digs on the evening. Sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) set up the offense nicely with 27 assists in the match. Junior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen, Ill./Brother Rice) added seven kills along with a match-high seven block assists (one solo). The Spartans were led by a pair of seniors in Chris Krueger and Chris Temple, who had 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Saint Xavier (6-19 overall/3-9 MAMVIC) takes on Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) in its final regular season match of the 2013 campaign. The match between the Cougars and the Trojans is set for a 6 p.m. start in Hannibal, Mo.
