CHICAGO – Led by a school record-setting night from junior right side Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) with eight service aces, the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball squad defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in a thrilling, five-set, non-conference match Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. SXU defeated the visiting Raiders by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25 and 15-11. Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) posted a game-high 17 kills on the evening to lead the offensive attack for the Cougars. As a unit, the Cougars were solid offensively posting a team attack percentage of .288 (58 kills, 24 errors) for the match.
Sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) recorded 15 kills in the match and both junior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) and sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) each chipped in double-digit kill totals with 12 and 10, respectively. French set up the Saint Xavier offense nicely with 31 assists on the night, while Siska added 18 assists of his own. Junior libero Dan Nelson (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) was tough defensively leading the Cougars with 12 digs. The Raiders were led by senior outside hitter Brian Main with 12 kills.
Saint Xavier (6-18 overall/3-9 MAMVIC) hosts its last home match of the season on Tuesday, March 26, in non-conference action against D'Youville College (N.Y.). The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center.
