Adrian, Mich. – Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) posted a combined 17 kills, five service aces and five total blocks (two solos), but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team still dropped its two Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) road matches this weekend. The Cougars fell to Lourdes College (Ohio) in three sets (25-21, 25-18 and 25-10) Friday evening in Holland, Ohio. SXU then headed to Adrian, Mich., for a Saturday match against Siena Heights University (Mich.), which went five sets with scores of 25-18, 25-20, 13-25, 18-25 and 9-15. With the two conference losses, the Cougars fall to 5-18 on the season and 3-9 in MAMVIC play.
Junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led the offensive attack for Saint Xavier over the two matches combining for 19 kills, including 14 in the match against Siena Heights. Sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) totaled 49 set assists over both matches to go along with six kills and six digs. Sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) also had a solid outing for the Cougars on the weekend recording 14 total kills and seven digs.
Saint Xavier (5-18 overall/3-9 MAMVIC) returns home to face off against Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in a non-conference match on Wednesday, March 20. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
