CHICAGO - It was only apropos that Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) capture the final Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the 2012-13 season, when it was announced earlier this week. Karp, the 2012-13 CCAC Player of the Year, gained the honor for the eighth time in the 17 weeks in which it was presented after averaging 16.3 points and 8.7 rebounds over three games in leading the Cougars to a runner-up finish in the 2013 CCAC Tournament during the seven-day period ending February 24.
Karp started his stretch of three games in four days with a 15-point, seven-rebound showing in a 95-84 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Wednesday, February 20. That was followed by him netting 11 points and nine rebounds against Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.) in a 64-46 tournament semifinal round win last Friday night. Less than 24 hours later, Karp delivered his 11th double-double of the season when he authored 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in last Saturday's championship game, an 84-75 loss to NAIA No. 2-ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Milwaukee.
By finishing second in the CCAC Tournament, Saint Xavier advances to the NAIA Division II National Championship in Point Lookout, Mo., which begins on Wednesday, March 6. The No. 7 nationally ranked Cougars will enter the 32-team, single-elimination tournament with a 28-5 overall record.
