Milwaukee, Wis. – Following the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament championship Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was named the 2012-13 CCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year and joined three of his teammates on the 2012-13 All-CCAC Men's Basketball Team when the honors were announced by the conference commissioner. Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also earned first team honors along with Karp, while senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) and sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) earned honorable mention recognition.
Karp has now earned first team honors all three years of his career at SXU, while Green is making his second straight appearance on the first team squad after earning honorable mention accolades during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Grant also earned an honorable mention spot for the second straight season. Karp ranked among the top four players in the league in no fewer than four statistical categories. During the conference season, he ranked second in scoring average (21.6 ppg), third in both rebounding (8.6 rpg) and steals (2.1 spg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.567). Green led the conference in assists per game (7.1 apg), while also averaging 11.7 points and 2.3 steals a game on the season. Krieger was SXU's second leading scorer averaging 13.9 points a game, while Grant was right behind him with a 13.4 scoring average.
Due to its second place finish in the conference standings and as tournament runner-up, Saint Xavier still earns one of the conference's two automatic bids to the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships. The 32-team tournament kicks off on Wednesday, March 6, in Point Lookout, Mo. The seeds and pairings for the national tournament are scheduled to be released by the NAIA national office on Wednesday, February 27, at around 7 p.m. (central).
