Kenosha, Wis. – Despite a combined 19 kills and 16 digs by junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped both its non-conference matches at the Carthage College (Wis.) Triangular Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. In the morning match, the Cougars fell to host Carthage in three sets 25-18, 25-22, 25-16. The afternoon match against Lindenwood University (Mo.) also lasted just three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-21. SXU struggled offensively racking up a combined 39 attacking errors over the two matches.
Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) also had a solid outing for the Cougars Saturday totaling 14 kills, three service aces and three blocks (one solo). Sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) racked up 51 set assists over both matches in addition to his seven total digs and four total blocks (two solos). Sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was also tough on the offensive attack for SXU combining for 10 total kills.
Saint Xavier (2-12 overall/2-6 MAMVIC) returns to Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) play on Thursday, February 21, with a home match against Lourdes University (Ohio). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
