CHICAGO - Kayla Gilbert, a senior middle distance runner at Shepard High School in Palos Heights, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's track program. The Calumet Park, Ill., native is expected to make an immediate impact on the indoor/outdoor track teams at SXU next season.

Gilbert is the daughter of Cynthia Gilbert of Calumet Park. She plans to pursue a degree in nursing next year at Saint Xavier University. Gilbert was coached by Verline Gaddis with the Astros' girl's track team.

"Kayla is an excellent student and athlete, who works hard to excel in both areas," said Saint Xavier University women's cross country/track coach Lisa Ebel. "She will be a very welcome addition to our track team next season."
