Joliet, Ill. - Senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) was nearly unstoppable as No. 9 ranked Saint Xavier University pulled away for a 68-41 road win over rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball action Wednesday night at the Sullivan Center in Joliet, Ill. Grant sank 11 of his 12 field goal attempts in the game en route to a game-high 22 points in addition to his four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Cougars, who have now won 20 of their last 21 games and are in the midst of a 12-game win streak, were dominant in the second half shooting 52 percent from the field (17-for-33), while holding the host Fighting Saints to just 17 points and 23 percent shooting (7-for-31) on the other end.
Junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also had solid performances for SXU. Karp finished with 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds, while Green tallied 10 points and dished out a game-best six assists. Freshman forward Josh Mawhorr (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) was tough on the boards as well for the Cougars Wednesday recording eight rebounds to go along with his six points. Freshman guard Edvinas Presniakovas was the only Fighting Saints player to score in double figures posting 12 points. USF came out strong jumping out to a 6-3 lead in the first two minutes of action, but a 19-4 run by SXU over the game's next eight minutes changed the momentum of the game for good. The Cougars led 32-24 at the half and held a double-digit advantage nearly the entire second half.
