CHICAGO – Callie Brown, a senior pitcher/outfielder at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2013 and compete for playing time on the field during the 2014 season. Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin is thrilled with the addition and believes that Brown has all the tools needed to have a very successful collegiate career.
Brown is the daughter of Mark and Jo Brown of West Des Moines. She is currently coached by Tom Bakey at Valley High School. Brown plans to pursue a degree in pre-medicine next year at Saint Xavier University. As both a junior and sophomore, she was named a third team selection on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State Softball Team. Brown was also a first team selection on the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) all-conference team her sophomore and junior seasons.
"Callie knows what it takes to compete and be successful at a high level," said Minuskin. "Her experience and fierce competitiveness will definitely help our program. We are so excited that she has selected to continue her playing career at Saint Xavier University."
