Milwaukee, Wis. – Freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) recorded 13 kills and no attacking errors as well as a team-best six total blocks (one solo) on the evening, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell in non-conference action to NCAA Division III Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in four sets Wednesday evening at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. The Cougars won the first set, 25-21, but then dropped the next three by scores of 16-25, 21-25 and 23-25. Junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) also had a nice individual outing for SXU leading the way with 15 kills to go along with nine digs.
Some of the other highlights for the Cougars Wednesday were sophomore middle blocker Sean Blackwood (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) with 11 kills, seven digs and four block assists and sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) posting 39 assists, five digs and three block assists. Senior Nick Piccirillo (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) was tough defensively with a team-high 10 digs.
Saint Xavier (0-5 overall/0-2 MAMVIC) heads back to Milwaukee on Friday, February 1, for the Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Tri-Match. The Cougars take on Robert Morris University (Ill.) in a conference match at 6 p.m. and then play host Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) for another conference tilt at 8 p.m.
