CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Suzie Broski (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) used a hot hand to earn her first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season, which was announced on Tuesday morning for the week ending Jan. 27. Broski lit up the nets in a pair of wins for the Cougars, including a 71-66 defeat of Robert Morris University (Ill.), which was among others receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division I Top 25 Poll. For the two affairs, Broski sizzled the nets to the tune of a .741 reading converting 20 of her 27 attempts.
Broski scored 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting in the win over Robert Morris last Wednesday. She then made good on eight of her 12 field goal attempts en route to a 17-point game in a 76-40 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Saturday. In both contests, Broski also secured three rebounds and one steal. The two victories extended SXU's winning streak to 13 games and kept the Cougars in the hunt for the CCAC regular-season title. Head coach Bob Hallberg's club currently sits in a three-way tie for first place with Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and Roosevelt University (Ill.). All three teams are 14-3 in league play. The Cougars currently rank No. 8 in the latest NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll.
Saint Xavier (20-3 overall/14-3 CCAC) goes for its 14th straight victory tomorrow evening taking on conference foe Judson University (Ill.) in Elgin, Ill. The game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
