CHICAGO - Gianna Pavone, a catcher/third baseman from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., has transferred to Saint Xavier University to continue both her athletic and academic career as a member of the Cougar softball program. Pavone will join the SXU roster next spring as a sophomore and will compete for playing time at either catcher or third base during the 2007 season.
Pavone is a native of Orland Park, Ill., and is the daughter of Joe and Judy Pavone. Prior to her one-year stint at St. Joseph's, Pavone enjoyed a successful prep career at Sandburg High School in Orland Park where she was coached by Randy Couwenhoven. She plans to pursue a degree in mathematics while at Saint Xavier University.
"Our program is thrilled to have Gianna," said Saint Xavier University head softball coach Myra Minuskin. "She is a strong defensive player and a great hitter, plus her experience will help our team tremendously."
