Olathe, Kan. - With its first game just over four weeks away, the Saint Xavier University softball team got some good news Wednesday receiving a No. 20 ranking in the 2006 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Softball Preseason Rating when the league office released the poll to the public. Last season, the Cougars finished 41-19 overall, captured the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular-season title, and qualified for the semi-finals of the NAIA Region VII Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed Waldorf College (Iowa), 5-4.

"We are very proud to be ranked among the best softball teams in the NAIA," said Saint Xavier softball coach Myra Minuskin. "Our goal this season will be to take each game one at a time and try to increase our position in the rankings as the season progresses."

Saint Xavier will kick off its 2006 season with a home doubleheader against Mount Mercy College (Iowa) on Friday, March 10, at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago. Start time for the first game is 3 p.m.
