CHICAGO – Junior outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and freshman middle blocker Sam Kull (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) each finished with seven kills, but it was not enough as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell to No. 9 ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The match lasted four sets with Stritch taking the first two by scores of 25-20 and 25-19, SXU taking the third set 25-22 and the Wolves closing out the match in the fourth set, 25-14. Senior outside hitter Adam Cosson led Cardinal Stritch with 15 kills in the match.
Sophomore setter Dan French (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) was key to the Cougars' offensive attack Wednesday leading the team with 22 assists. He also finished the night with six digs, three total blocks (two solos), two kills and an ace. Junior middle blocker J.T. O'Connell (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) was tough around the net for SXU posting a team-best five total blocks (one solo). Junior right side Jacob Siska (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) was also tough defensively with a team-leading nine digs and three blocks (one solo).
Saint Xavier (0-3 overall/0-2 MAMVIC) will travel to Dubuque, Iowa, for its next game on Thursday, January 24, against MAMVIC East Division foe Clarke University (Iowa). The match is set for a 7 p.m. (central) start.
