CHICAGO – Kamil Szczesniak, a senior left midfielder at Reavis High School in Burbank, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. A native of Skomielna Biola, Poland, Szczesniak will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2013 and compete for playing time on the left side of the midfield. Saint Xavier University men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic believes that Szczesniak has the ability to make an immediate impact on the Cougar squad as a freshman.
Szczesniak is the son of Eugeniusz and Beata Szczesniak. He is currently coached by Robert Morack at Reavis High School. Last August, Szczesniak was named the Chicago Fire/SouthtownStar Soccer Player of the Week. He also scored the game-winning goal for the Rams in a 1-0 victory over top-ranked Marist High School this past October to capture the school's first regional championship since 2005. That victory gave the Rams' 18 victories for the 2012 season, the most in the program's history.
"I'm thrilled about Kamil's decision to join us at Saint Xavier University," said Vucinic. "He is exactly the type of student-athlete we're looking for to help us continue to grow this program to the heights we know we are capable of attaining. On the field, he will give us speed and a high work rate down the left flank with the ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations and create dangerous chances. From an intangible standpoint, Kamil is one of those high character guys who you want to go to battle with and he has been exceptional in the classroom. I'm looking forward to seeing his Cougar career get started."
