Bourbonnais, Ill. - Saint Xavier University seniors Nicole Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), Marie Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), and Samantha Lovato (Oak Forest, Ill./Eisenhower) were all named to the 2007 NAIA All-Region VII Softball Team Wednesday when the honors were released at the 2007 NAIA Region VII Softball Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill. Both Barkers were named as outfielders, while Lovato, starting shortstop for the Cougars, was named to the All-Region Team as an infielder.
Nicole Barker currently leads the SXU offense with 68 hits, 40 runs scored, and a batting average of .430 (68-for-158) over 44 games. She also has seven doubles, four triples, and 16 stolen bases. Her sister, Marie, is batting .341 (43-for-126) with 34 runs scored and 17 RBI over 42 games. She has also recorded five doubles, three triples, and 11 stolen bases on the year. Lovato is also playing well for the Cougars batting .396 (53-for-134) with team-highs of 12 doubles, four home runs, and 49 RBI over 43 games. She is a perfect 16-for-16 on stolen base attempts thus far this season and has committed just nine errors at the shortstop position.
Saint Xavier (30-14 overall/14-3 CCAC) is currently playing No. 4 Waldorf College (Iowa) in an elimination game of the 2007 NAIA Region VII Softball Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill. If the Cougars defeat Waldorf Thursday, they will play another game immediately afterward against No. 3 seed and host Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
