CHICAGO – Just hours after earning his fourth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week honor in the last five weeks, Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down a game-best nine rebounds in a key 68-58 conference win over Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  Karp finished the game shooting an impressive 10-for-14 from the field and also blocked a game-high three shots in the contest.  The Cougars (15-4 overall/11-2 CCAC) struggled shooting the ball in the game's first half and fell behind 21-15 with just six minutes to play before halftime.  However, a pair of three-pointers by sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) late in the frame gave SXU a nice boost and the home team bounced back to take a 33-28 lead into the locker room at the break.

Krieger finished the game with 14 points for the Cougars, while senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also scored in double figures with 13 points to go along with his game-highs of five assists and six steals.  After leading by five at the half, the Cougars pushed the lead to double figures early in the second half, but the Titans came storming back and cut the lead to two points, 44-42, on a three-pointer by junior guard Chris Beam with 13:11 left to play.  The game stayed close over the next nine minutes of play with SXU never trailing, but never able to gain a comfortable lead until a thunderous dunk off a rebound by freshman forward Tony Core (Matteson, Ill./Tinley Park) near the four-minute mark put the Cougars up, 60-53.  That seemed to be the spark SXU needed to finish the game strong as the home team extended the lead back into double figures in the closing minutes.

Saint Xavier (15-4 overall/11-2 CCAC) continues its regular season slate on Thursday, January 10, with a key conference match-up against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).  The road game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off in Bourbonnais, Ill.
