CHICAGO – Sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) combined for 46 points to lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a 95-77 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago.  Trailing 12-8 early, the Cougars (14-4 overall/10-2 CCAC) used an 18-4 run that started at the 15:00 mark of the first half to take the lead for good.  Krieger and senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) led the charge with each scoring seven points during the run.  Krieger finished the game with 22 points, including four three-pointers, while Karp totaled 24 points and team-leading seven rebounds.  Grant chipped in 16 points toward the winning effort.

Both teams shot well in the game with SXU hitting 51 percent (34-for-67) of its shots and the Saints connecting on half of their attempts (29-for-58).  Turnovers proved to be the difference maker as the Cougars committed just six turnovers compared to 20 miscues by the visitors.  Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) had another notable all-around outing for Saint Xavier recording 11 points, nine assists and four steals.  Junior forward Brandon Evans led Holy Cross College with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting.  The Cougars took a 45-30 lead into halftime and then posted another 50 points after the break.  SXU's defense was key to the victory as well with 12 steals helping lead to HCC's big turnover total.

Saint Xavier (14-4 overall/10-2 CCAC) is back in action on Tuesday, January 8, against CCAC foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB).  The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
